Before you tear into me on this review on why I am writing about a mass brew and their new concoction that wants to compete with the microbrews out there, give me a few sentences to get your attention. When Bud Light Lime came out, I did not rush to the store to try it out because it just didn’t seem like something that would appeal to me or many people for that matter, you put lime in beer not brew it with lime. I have to admit I did try the Bud Light Lime at a Labor Day BBQ in 2008, it was already at the party and wasn’t bad, not my type of brew, but there you go.
Fast forward to October 2009 and I start seeing the commercials for this new brew from Anheiser Busch, it looks appealing since I am a fan of wheat beers, but figured I had to try it anyway and see what the big Beer conglomerates were up to. Picked up a twelve pack of the stuff (figured if it did suck someone would drink it at some point) on the way home and away we go into the new invention we know as Bud Light Golden Wheat.
Popping open the cap and pouring this new found brew into my pint the color was Golden as the name implied with an unfiltered cloudy appearance with a semi firm head. The smell was filled with wheat and citrus hints which gave me the indication that this stuff was going to be pretty good. A refreshing beer that doesn’t seem to taste like a brew that was mass produced (even though it was), they did something right here. The aftertaste barely lingers around and has a citrusy flavor to it. A refreshing brew, although mass produced is half way decent in the wheat category.
